 Keynote Speakers

Tuesday Keynote Speaker - Dr. Peter Morici

"
2009 Global Economic Outlook"
To many economists, the current financial meltdown is no surprise -- only its swiftness. Given the global nature of the crisis and complexity of issues, uncertainty and volatility are now the prevailing currencies. Dr. Peter Morici, professor of international business at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and a frequent national commentator on the economic crisis, will put the macroeconomic outlook into clear focus and its implications for businesses, including how new trade, monetary and fiscal policies that will likely shape the outcomes.

Wednesday Keynote Speaker - Katty Kay

"Restoring U.S. Prestige: The President's Top Priority "
The world’s eyes will be on the United States and the new administration as they attempt to solve the current economic crisis.  Their strategy with be analyzed and critiqued the world over.  America’s attempts to "go it alone" on major global issues in recent years has cost the country credibility internationally. Yet in efforts at tackling the economy, fighting terrorism, stabilizing Middle East policy, the U.S. truly needs its allies. BBC News reporter Katty Kay checks the pulse and sentiment towards the U.S. by its allies and others. She then works to answer the question "what does the president need to do to restore America's prestige internationally and reinvigorate its leadership role around the world." Anti-Americanism, she says from the viewpoint of a correspondent who has lived in countries around the world, is not permanent. Kay outlines how, with skillful diplomacy and strategic initiatives, the U.S. can restore its global standing.
